What do you know about APS scores? What is the intuitive idea you have about APS score?

The admission point score is normally shortened as APS, which is also known as the entrance score or the admission criteria score.

In the past many institutions used a subjective approach to determine the eligibility of students into schools. This subjective approach relied more on personal observation and inspection evaluation, which was seen as inconsistence and unfair.

The introduction of admission point scores in many schools has bridged the chaos surrounding selection and provided transparency. The inception of APS scores has created fairness, efficiency, and a more calculative way of selecting students.

In this blog post, we are going delve more into the AP score, and some of the frequently asked questions about APS Score.

What is an APS score?

Admission point scores, also known as APS, have become a way to measure and compare the academic accomplishments of students who are applying to educational institutions, especially in higher education.

The scoring system was created to address the need for a fair and transparent way to evaluate candidates’ qualifications beyond just grades or exam scores.

The APS score is a measure used in certain countries, particularly South Africa, to evaluate students’ academic achievements for university entrance. The system calculates points by considering the results of your final high school exams.

It assigns different point values to different subjects and performance levels. The APS takes into account subjects that are relevant to the field of study you have chosen and assists universities in assessing whether applicants meet the eligibility criteria.

It helps to ensure a fair comparison of students who come from different curriculum systems and grading scales.

Having a higher APS can increase your chances of getting accepted into the programs you prefer. It shows that you have done well academically and have the potential to succeed in higher education.

What Is The Highest APS Score You Can Get?

Before we look at the highest APS score one can get, it is important to you, as the reader, to also understand this concept.

The APS score is considered to be a numerical assessment of the various subjects’ scores. There are numbers allocated for every range of percentages scored in your exams. And this percentage score represents a number. The number ranges from 1 to 7, and as we already know, the exam score starts from 0 to 100%.

So what is the highest APS score an individual can get?

When we consider the highest point of the exam score, it is number 7 that tops it all. Supposing you are writing 6 subjects in your exams, and you get 7 points for each subject, you can have 42 points. This 42 points can be the highest APS score an individual can get since 6 subjects are written at the end of their high school education.

What Is A Good APS Score?

When something is considered good, it means it contains value and it is worthy. Having a good APS score can give you so many opportunities in terms of free funding, scholarships, and other incentives.

An APS score can be considered good if it goes beyond the general performance of a particular group. Although good in this can be relative, it can also be subjected to one point: gaining admission into the university.

A good APS score can start from 36 points and upwards. In some cases, others may see a good APS score to be 40 and above.

In general, a good APS score can be determined based on the university you wish to attend and the course you wish to study. However, having 36 points can be regarded as a good APS score.

What APS Do You Need For University?

Most universities can determine your eligibility for admission using your APS score. If you are considering entering the university, the first thing to consider is your APS score. How Good is your APS score to get you the chance of getting into the university?

You can usually find APS calculators on most university websites. However, if you calculate your own APS, it will give you a good idea of what your APS can provide for you in terms of opportunities at university.

To be eligible for university, you need an APS score of 19 and above. This can give you the chance to study a diploma course or a degree.

How Do You Calculate APS Score?

The admission points score is used to determine the credibility and eligibility of an individual into a tertiary institution. The APS score is part of the determinants to confirm if an individual qualifies for admission into tertiary after high school.

To calculate your APS score, this is what you need to know.

Imagine an instance where a student is in the process of applying to a university that takes into account the scores of six subjects: Mathematics, English, Physical Science, Life Science, History, and Geography. The point value for each subject is determined by the student’s performance in that particular subject.

Each percentage comes with a point, as stated below

80% – 100% = 7 points

70% – 79% = 6 points

60% – 69% = 5 points

50% – 59% = 4 points

40% – 49% = 3 points

30% – 39% = 2 points

0% – 29% = 1 point

To further calculate your APS score, you must add the points from each of the scores you had in the various subjects. Each of the 6 subjects must have a point, and all these points are put together to get the overall APS score.
