Can I deregister myself from UIF? The deregistration process is available not to the employees but to the employer. As it is done, the employer registered the employee under the company’s umbrella; hence the steps to deregister UIF should be done by the employer.

How To Deregister UIF

Supposing you are an employee who may have been sacked from work or retrenched, your employer takes the responsibility to begin the deregistering process. Now let us look at how to deregister UIF.

How long does it take to be cleared from UIF?

Being cleared from UIF is considered as getting paid by UIF after submitting your claim forms. Once you qualify for UIF, the ultimate step is to apply for the benefits and wait for approval.

The process of the form submission and approval can take weeks.

Regardless, your details being cleared from UIF confirming the need and the validity of your details can take up to 24 to 72 hours.

against all odds, and therefore, payment must be made to you.

The question of UIF expiring is a valid one for individuals to ask. Resigning from your work, in the first place, does not qualify you for UIF benefits. However, if you resign from your work, your UIF contribution remains until you decide to work with a new firm.

UIF contributions do not expire if you resign; you only can not make claims for UIF if you resign. No expiring date is attached to your UIF contribution upon resignation

How do you check if you are UIF registered?

An employee needs to check if they have been registered with UIF. Registering with the unemployment insurance fund secures you against an unforeseen situation that could lead you to unemployment, provided you fall into the right category.

Employees can check if they are UIF registered by visiting the department of labour to submit needed particulars. Employees can also login into their UIF platform and view the contributions and declarations documents – once it is confirmed on the portal, it confirms you are UIF registered.

What happens if I am not registered for UIF?

According to the employment act, all employers and employees are obligated to register with UIF. This is backed by law, and any breach could get you fined or jailed. It is part of the constitution and the employment code, and therefore the adherence counts.

If you are not registered with UIF, the department of labour could process you for court, and that is the first punishment that can be served.

On the other hand, you will only be able to make claims for benefits if you are registered. The contributions that will insure you against unemployment will not be available.
