As a SASSA grant recipient, you want to know when your money is paid and is available to use. Luckily, SASSA has created a variety of ways to do this easily. Today we cover some common methods you can use to check if your SASSA money is in your account for you to use.
How To Check If My SASSA Money Is In My Account
SASSA understands that careful management of your grant money, no matter what SASSA grant or SRD grant you receive, is important to you- and that means you need to know when you receive your money. Here’s a few ways you can check if your SASSA money is in your bank account.
- The easiest will be checking your bank account via your banking app, their customer service hotline, or by visiting a branch. Do remember that the bank only receives the money (as with any other payment) and has no direct influence over SASSA, so they won’t be able to explain why money may not have been received.
- Most South African banks will ping you with an SMS or intra-app notification when you receive money, which will let you know immediately when the payment clears. You can also do a check at any ATM, although this may incur charges. This works for both standard bank cards and the SASSA gold card.
- You can use the SASSA USSD number to get a balance notification on your phone (*120*3210#) or use the WhatsApp service (082 046 8553)
If you are still uncertain if your SASSA payment has been received, you can contact the SASSA helpline (080060 10 11), email grantenquiries@sassa.gov.za, or visit a SASSA office for further help.
Remember, it may take some time for the funds to be processed and credited to your account after SASSA approval. If you recently received notification of approval, it’s possible that the payment is still in progress and hasn’t yet reached your bank account.
How Do I Check My SRD Balance On Whatsapp?
SASSA now has an official WhatsApp number you can use to check your SRD balance, and it is 082 046 8553. In order to use the WhatsApp balance check option, make sure you have added this list to your contacts on your phone. Then send an initial message to the number reading ‘SASSA’. The chatbot will reply with some security questions you will need to answer. Once you are fully on the service, you can send them a message reading ‘status’, and then respond ‘yes’ to the follow-up prompt. You will need the reference number from your SASSA card to use this service, so don’t lose it!
How To Check SASSA R350 Balance Without Airtime?
There are several ways you can check your SASSA R350/SRD grant without airtime to use their mobile channels. The best method is to use the SASSA-specific USSD code (*120*3210#), which will work without using airtime. You can also head to the SRD grant portal online to check if you can access the internet without mobile data.
You can also visit your nearest SASSA office or pay point. While some pay points are not directly run by SASSA, they should be able to assist you in checking your R350 grant balance. If you choose this method, don’t forget to bring your South African ID card or green book, your SASSA card, reference numbers you have, and anything else that will make it easier to find on their system.
Of course, in the spirit of ubuntu, you can also ask a friend or family member to check your balance for you using their airtime and phone. However, this does have some risks and lack of privacy, and SASSA strongly prefers that you always use the mobile device whose number you registered with them, so we only suggest this as a last resort. If you need to take this route, consider instead asking them for a ‘me to you’ style airtime loan, a wi-fi hotspot to use the WhatsApp number, or a small amount of airtime loaded to your phone, so you can use your own device and stay safe.
How To Check SASSA R350 Balance Online?
If you want to check your SASSA R350 balance online, remember that you will not use the general SASSA portal. This is only used for formal SASSA grants, not the SRD grant/R350 grant. Instead, you should head to the SRD grant specific portal. You can also get some basic information here.
The SRD (Social Relief of Distress) grant is a temporary grant introduced by the South African government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a grant for eligible individuals who are unemployed, do not receive any other form of income or SASSA social grant, and who cannot claim UIF. This means it is handled differently to standard SASSA grants. If you are already receiving one of the other SASSA grant types, you will not be eligible for the SRD grant.
Why Is My SASSA Money Approved But No Payday?
It is frustrating to see that your SASSA grant or R350 grant is approved but still has no payday and an empty bank account. There’s a few reasons why this might happen. If you’ve logged in online to the correct portal (either the general SASSA portal or the SRD/R350 grant specific one) and have seen an ‘approved’ status for your claim, the chances are very strong that there is nothing wrong with your application. It’s good to know that another previous issue- having ‘too much’ money in your account to receive the SRD grant- has been fixed and should no longer cause a delayed payday.
