UIF

The unemployment insurance fund is available for employees and employers to register. As an employer, you are obligated to register your employees if hiring them for more than 24 hours per month. The UIF expects employers to abide by the rules and regulations when they employ individuals, thereby registering them on the UIF platform. The 2% monthly contribution must always go into your UIF account.

This is a policy that is backed by law and also to aid individuals who lose their jobs for the right purposes. The government of South Africa ensures all contributors who lose their job will benefit from UIF. It is not all about the benefit; the agency also puts things in place to put you right back. For example, should you lose your job because of the collapse of the company, UIF will assist you in finding a new job, depending on your field. Obviously, that is not part of their obligation, but it is an extra bonus service.

How to Cancel UIF

What could make one cancel their UIF? What may be the reasons behind these actions? One thing we have to understand is that UIF does not restrict its applicants. However, the law requires that your employer must register you once you earn something. Although there is an online portal available for all registered workers or individuals, you can easily take your details of the system.

Now, to cancel your UIF means you might have been sacked or probably leaving the country for other opportunities. Canceling your UIF is just like deregistration. Your employer can deregister you off the system if you are sacked for misconduct. And this can be done by completing the declaration UI19 form the same way when they are registration workers.

Your employer can cancel UIF by logging into the official uFiling website; the same platform used to register their employers and pay contributions. Once your employer or account holder has logged in, they can indicate the employer’s details, including the employment end date, reasons, and personal details like name and phone number.

Once this is done, the status of the worker is updated on the labour department platform. However, it is up to the labour department to approve this deregistration. For them to authorise, they will call the account holder or the employer to confirm before moving to the next stage.

What number do I call to cancel UIF?

Many people who choose to cancel their UIF may not do so without notice from their employers. The reality of this UIF is that; it is meant for employees who have been fully registered. This is a form of insurance that provides financial support for individuals who have been registered with UIF and also contributed. And this instance, the sole responsibility falls on your employer.

There is an obvious reason for one to request to cancel their UIF. The duty lies in your employer and not you as the employee. If an individual who is still working decides to cancel UIF, you would be queried with no tangible reason and could face some serious consequences.

However, if you want to cancel UIF through a call, the number is 0123371680. This is the labour department center. Calling them to cancel comes with a lot of questions. They must have received your deregistration request from your employer before moving on to cancel. The labour department advised individuals not to cancel their UIFs as this can go against them in the future.

Many people who have contributed to UIF may want to know whether there is a withdrawal option available. To educate you, the UIF does not work like a bank or grant option.
