SASSA grant recipients can use their SASSA Debit MasterCard in any place where the MasterCard is accepted. The SASSA card can be used to make purchases, check balances, or withdraw cash without incurring charges at specific till points. Although you can use your SASSA card at an ATM, this will attract transaction charges.

However, you can lose your SASSA card, or it can get damaged, but the good news is that you can get a replacement. There are certain measures you should take to get another card if it is lost or stolen. Keep on reading to learn how long it takes to get a replacement for SASSA card.

How Long Does It Take to Replace a Sassa Card

You can only get a replacement for a stolen or lost card at any nearest SASSA office. Although you can get cash and other services at the South African Post Office, you must apply for a replacement card at the SASSA office.

When you visit your nearest SASSA office to apply for a new card, the process usually takes a few minutes if you have all the required documentation. The SASSA official will review all your details and process a new card when everything is correct.

Getting a replacement card is the same-day service, but make sure you visit the SASSA office during business days. You cannot apply for a new card during public holidays or weekends when the office is closed.

How Do I Get a New Sassa Card if I Lost It?

The first thing you should do when you lose your SASSA card is to call the Cash Payment Service (CPS) or call the bank on 0800 600 160. When you use a landline, this is a toll-free number. The bank will immediately block the card so that no one can access your cash when you notify them that your card has been stolen or lost.

You will also need to obtain an affidavit from the police detailing how your card was lost. If you do not have an ID, make sure you visit the Home Affairs department to obtain a temporary one. SASSA cannot process an application for a replacement card when you do not have an identity document.

You also need other documents, such as proof of residence to prevent fraud. Additionally, you must have proof of banking details when you apply for a replacement card. The details you provide should match the original information in your SASSA records.

You must complete an application form for the card and tick the appropriate box to indicate that it is a replacement for a lost card. The SASSA official will go through all the details you have provided on the application form and process your card.

How Much Is a Replacement of SASSA Card?

You will get a free replacement when you lose your SASSA card for the first time. However, a fee of R26 will be charged thereafter for the replacement of a lost or stolen card. The money will be deducted from your grant payment.

Although the replacement fee is not much, it is recommended that you must keep your card and pin in a safe place. When not using the card, it is a good idea to avoid moving around with it. If you encounter any problem with your card, you should report it to your nearest SASSA office.

You must visit your SASSA office if you are unsure about the pin. Failed attempts to enter the correct pin will result in a blockage of the card. If your card is blocked, you must apply for a replacement. Therefore, keeping your card secure will save you from the hassle of applying for and paying for a replacement card.

Can I Apply for New SASSA Card Online?

You cannot apply for a new SASSA card online since everything is done at the SASSA offices. You need to physically apply for the card, and it will be processed while you wait. SASSA does not offer online card applications because they cannot be sent to the recipient by post.

The applicant must submit the required details by hand at the local SASSA office. The officials may also need to verify certain details provided by the applicant. If certain information needs to be updated, this becomes easier if the beneficiary is present.

A SASSA card works similarly to a MasterCard since you can make purchases and withdraw cash. However, there is a danger that your card can be stolen or get lost. Once you lose your card, you may not enjoy the convenience of shopping and withdrawing cash anywhere. The good news is that you can get a replacement card at your nearest SASSA office. By following these steps, you can make the process of SASSA card replacement seamless.
