Matric is a course that typically takes three years to complete. You must select and pass at least five of the six subjects. Several factors influence the time it will take for you to complete your Matric. One important factor to consider is your ability to understand the concepts in your subjects quickly. 

It is not possible to study and complete the written examination within a period of 3 months.

You can complete your Matric course in a minimum of 12 months.

Writing matric for the first involves a lot, and even with that, failures are encountered among many students. It takes several months for students to prepare for the main matric exams.

Now, regarding the matric rewrites, the timeline depends on your preparation. However, most importantly, the planning must be done within the timeframe the exams will take place.

Considering the months it takes for the matric rewrite, there are certain key components that rely on the individual’s preparation and plans. 

If you decide to start rewriting your Matric as soon as you’re done with your initial exams, which usually take place in May/June, you’ll be able to complete your Matric Rewrite within a period of 6 months. However, you have the freedom to decide the duration of your study period before retaking your Matric exams. It can take anywhere from 12 to 24 months.

The Department of Basic Education has not put any limitation on the number of times you can do matric.

The cost of a Matric Rewrite will depend on the number of matric subjects you wish to rewrite and the institution you choose to study.

Also, some institutions do not charge any amount for the matric rewrite.

Overall, the cost of the matric rewrite will factor in the individuals’ circumstances. There are instances where special classes may be organised, more internal exams may be required, and others. 

However, according to the Department of Basic Education’s general policy, you do not have to pay to take a matric rewrite.
